Potter’s Creek Civic Association

July 2001 Newsletter

July 3, 2001

Dear Member:

This is a continuation of the occasional newsletters and communications we have had through the years. Since the “bus barn” there have been few issues facing the Subdivision. While that is really good news, it also means that we don’t communicate as frequently and as completely as we should. We hope this will help alleviate that situation~

Your Officers and Trustees met on June 27 to discuss several items of interest and to take action regarding several projects affecting the community.

Thankfully, we have volunteers for all Trustee Positions.  Your Trustees are:

Pat McGahan           Lakeside Circle Outside

Vickie Handshy        Lakeside Circle Inside

Patty Kalbfleisch       Collins Drive

Jim Kennedy            Ravine circle

Meadowbrook Circle   David Holcomb

I would like to thank everyone for their efforts and time!

Sincerely, Richard Hunter, (433-9551) President

TREE HEALTH

The strip of land on the north side of Collins Drive, from the Entry Sign to Perry Park is owned by the Association. This strip has a number of trees, which are in questionable health. We had a licensed Arborist review these and make recommendations regarding their condition and care. He recommended that we not take action to remove any at this time, but that we “deep-feed” them to counter the effect of the severe drought and stress of last summer. He will review them again next year to determine any that may be candidates for removal. As a part of the front landscaping we are creating “mower circles” around each tree to prevent future damage.

FRONT LANDSCAPING:

Pat McGahan has taken on the responsibility for this project. He has been authorized to either hire professionals or use volunteers as needed to get this area under control. If you can help, call him at 436-1014. We will be removing some of the vegetation, cleaning and “dc-weeding” for now, with potential changes to more “drought tolerant” planting this fall.

The mowing and trimming of the entry and north side of Collins Drive is rotated through neighborhood kids. The scheduling and rotation of this group is the responsibility of our Treasurer Bob Burpee, (436-4633).

DEED RESTRICTIONS:

During the formation of the Potters Creek Subdivision there were a number of variances granted by the City of Worthington for both phases of the Potters Creek Development, and there was a set of Deed Restrictions and Protective Covenants which were made a part of every Lot within the Subdivision. Since most of us do not have easy access to our Deeds, your Officers thought it would be a good idea to attach a copy of these to this newsletter.

One of the items covered by these restrictions are the mailboxes and light posts, which are defined as a specific design and are to be uniform throughout the Subdivision. Since many are in need of repair or replacement your Officers and Trustees also discussed the need to find a source for replacements as well as a source of repair parts. One of the few Lumber Yards in the area that still has the patterns and can make these is Jones Lumber, 271-1109. Ted Antes is one of their salespeople and he can be contacted for replacements and parts. Their cost for a complete replacement mailbox and mounting post unit is $375. The Light post (only) is $125. The replacement mailbox (without post) is $200. Ohio Lighting is the source for the light unit. The posts and mailboxes are rough-sawn Cedar and the designs are part of your deed restrictions.

Several of our neighbors have voiced concerns regarding rubbish and construction material in several side yards. We all need to remember that almost all parts of our lots are visible. We have a minimum of fencing and the resultant views form a valuable part of the ambiance of

-Potters~ Creek The key point of these restrictions and covenants is that we all collectively wish to maintain that ambiance and represent Potters Creek in the best possible manner.

PET CONTROL:

The City of Worthington does not have a “leash law”, but there is a specific ordinance regarding pet control. The Ordinance states (paraphrased) that you must keep positive control of your pet at all times.  Litter and waste pickup need more attention and simply letting your pet out the door is not “positive control”. There has been at least one instance of a pet being attacked and injured by an unleashed dog. What if this had been a child?

SPEEDING

The speed limit is 25 mph for every street in the subdivision. Everyone needs to watch their speed, remind our kids of that fact, and be aware that most of the people speeding through on our streets are us!

SLOW DOWN!

PARKING

The City of Worthington placed the “No Stopping - No Standing” signs at our request. The only way the Police can issue tickets is for one of us to call in the infractions and let them respond. The non-emergency number is 885-4463. This will directly connect you with the Worthington Police/Fire Dispatcher. If you explain the problem they will have an Officer respond. Again, keeping your speed down through this area will help.

DIRECTORY

Revision 8 of the Potters Creek Directory is again sponsored by Judy Potter Hunter. The scheduled distribution is September 1st, so we will be circulating a new form in late July.

In the meantime, HAVE A GREAT SUMMER!
